Do you feel like dancing? Do you want to act? Or combine both? Then my workshop is just right for you! Anyone who is curious about movement theater is welcome to join – with or without previous experience. Maybe you already dance, play an instrument, or enjoy expressing yourself with your body and voice? Or maybe you’ve never done anything like this before, but something inside you is saying: I want to try dance theater! – Then you are also very welcome here.
This time, the workshop will focus on the theme of family. Feel free to participate as a family: children with their parents, grandparents with grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings—all constellations are welcome! We want to get moving together, be creative, and spend a wonderful, inspiring time together.

About the artist
Arthur Schopa is a freelance dancer, choreographer, and dance educator. He has performed internationally in numerous productions and collaborated with various choreographers, directors, companies, and artists. In 2013, he founded the FREIRAUM ENSEMBLE in Cologne and has choreographed for the Schauspielhaus Bochum and DNT Weimar, among others. He also works as a lecturer and educator, accompanying artistic projects in educational contexts.

African Dance | Intro Workshop for all Levels
This workshop will be structured around fun and learning. Dancers of all levels, abilities, and ages are welcomed to join. It’s an intergenerational engagement. The working material will consist mainly from movement scores drawn from dances from Kenya and also borrowing from other African regions. We will be dancing to both live and recorded music.
Dance Mashup | for dancers with basic experience
This workshop will be structured around the intersection of different dance techniques and styles on Nyatiti Music. We will focus on transitions based on the four elements of wind, water, earth, and fire, as an integral part in bridging clear moments in a choreography. The dance styles we are going to explore consist of, and are not limited to contemporary (exploring floor work, release, improvisation, contact), African, Hip Hop, etc. Participants are encouraged to bring objects, texts, ideas and images that mean something to them.

JANANGA reveals the layers of meaning behind dress codes that originated in Africa and span across different civilizations. The performance takes us on a journey through loincloths from pre-colonial African societies, the khaki uniforms of colonial oppression, the Kaunda suits of the Pan-African resistance, contemporary fashion trends, and Afrofuturistic forms of expression.

About Adam Chienjo and Upstage Limited
Adam Chienjo is an artist born in Kenya who lives in Nairobi. His artistic career began as a breakdancer before he turned to experimental contemporary dance. Since then, he has developed his own projects and continues to work as a performer, dancer, choreographer, curator, dance critic, and creative consultant. He is passionate about collaborative and interdisciplinary work, wellness, and outreach. Adam is also the founder and curator of the annual Dance Life Festival in Nairobi.
Upstage Limited is a Nairobi-registered non-profit organization dedicated to creating inclusive platforms for artistic expression in East Africa. It creates bold spaces where performers can showcase their work, expand their audiences, and build sustainable careers in the creative industries.

A multi-medium performance for young audience with two dancers and touchscreens.
The dancers are entering through the screens into a virtual wonderland which takes them into a journey around the world. Through the screen, they virtually travel in different countries and cultures, and learn new music. During this journey they discover new things about themselves and they learn that what surrounds them is as interesting as the phantasy world they meet through the screen. In Flugmodus, the screens are also digital dancers, and together with the human dancers they create a choir of touchscreens. With movement, sound and videos the performers will ask the audience to turn their smartphones into flight mode and invite them to join them on an interactive journey in the technological wonderland through the screens.

In this workshop, improvisation technique meets personal physical and dance possibilities as well as individual fantasy, imagination and creativity.
Various principles and basics of dance improvisation are introduced and explored in solo, duo or group situations.
The focus is on the fun of dancing and the (democratic!) values of dance improvisation.
For everyone aged 16 and over, with or without previous experience.
