Foxes have many faces: they are cute and cunning predators, shy and curious at the same time. Free like a cat, but also sociable like a dog. They live in the forest as well as in the city, in the ice and in the desert. They move between worlds, adapt and conquer new places. They have many characteristics and many habitats. They sneak and jump, they bark and sing. They are considered clever, sometimes even magical. Never only good or only bad. They are at home everywhere and there are stories and fairy tales about them in all cultures.
The dance parable “FOXX” follows the trail of this versatile animal. Three performers immerse themselves in the world of the fox and test its abilities, movements and characteristics. They jump and move between the European Reineke and the magical nine-tailed Japanese Kitsune, between fairy tales and manga, traditional dances and K-pop. It will be colorful, fairytale-like, shrill and at the same time shy, sensitive and mysterious.
Choreographer Barbara Fuchs follows the tracks of the animal that gave her her surname. Composer Jörg Ritzenhoff creates atmospheric electro-acoustic soundscapes, Arthur Schopa creates a lively video image layer that interacts with the performers and playwright Charlotte Luise Fechner has written a fox parable for the production, which is also reflected vocally in FOXX.

From October 2nd to 4th 2024, venues in Cologne will open their doors for three days and the city becomes a hotspot for dance, theatre, performance and contemporary circus. You can find the entire festival programme here: https://fddk.de/programm/
On October 4th, it will be the turn of the Ehrenfeld area – and we look forward to welcoming you here too. From 8 pm, we’ll be showing a different performance every hour:
8 pm: MIT UNS! (David meets Hanna)
A dance performance by Silke Z. with David Winking and Hanna Held

Hanna and David meet. The two performers, who differ in their ability and (dance) biography, visualise the diversity of human bodies. They trace their physical landscapes, measure their forms and strengths and encounter each other in a very human way.
9 pm: HNSL/GRTL (excerpt)
A dance piece by performing:group for everyone from the age of 13
Photo: © Christopher Horne
HNSL/GRTL is an intuitive dance piece. An absurd ‘coming of age’ scenario between fairy tale, science fiction and absurd theatre. Two versions of a single cell must break out of their familiar patterns to find new strategies for old problems. It is a special world through which Bianca and Francesco move. A world after our own. A fairytale-like microcosm with its own laws and rules. Perhaps a parallel universe. Nothing seems to exist here. Except for themselves. How are you supposed to find your way around here? How do you create a home for yourself? And what can that look like? The two of them have to come up with something: They have to set up a new camp every day and find a common language. Fun quickly turns into bitter seriousness. And wait a minute… Isn’t there a witch in every good fairy tale?
10 pm: MOMENTOLOGY
A dance improvisation performance
Photo: © Sabine Große-Wortmann
MOMENTOLOGY explores the moment between the lines. Caroline Simon moves between humour and poetry, between the expected and the surprising, between body and language, between the certain and the possible. In collaboration with Silke Z. (sound) and Garlef Keßler (light), the performance is created live in front of the audience.
11 pm: Eye Contact
A dance solo by Ido Grinberg

Photo: © David Kaplan
What remains in our bodies when all screens, filters and masks are removed? How does ubiquitous technology affect us, even when we put the screens aside and reconnect with our inner selves? What impact does technology have on our bodies? A solo that explores the technological takeover of our private space in contrast to the longing for the magical simplicity of life.
12 am: Memo
A short holiday with Konnective

Summer 2024 in Grosseto, Italy. Three performers reflect on their friendship while on holiday together. They negotiate jealousy and conflicts between friends, forms of care and their limits in a society centred on romantic relationships.

The performance 1,000,000 ways to try and stop the rain was created as a touchdown dance piece by Angus Balbernie, who performs on stage together with blind dancer Stuart Jackson. Angus and Stuart speak of darkness and light, of silence and noise, of their dreams and sometimes of owls. The performance is an improvised experiment and poses questions on the themes of “otherness” and “growing older”.
On Saturday, 21 September, there will be an additional introduction before the performance at 5 pm as well as the panel discussion ‘Touch, Dance & Disability’ with Katy Dymoke (artistic director of Touchdown Dance) and guests at 6 pm.
