The workshop “Queering the Stage” examines acting and dance approaches to rehearsal and stage work from an intersectional queer-feminist perspective. Theoretical impulses from Judith Butler, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, and Donna Haraway serve as the basis for a physical, practice-oriented implementation. (No prior knowledge necessary) Through small content-related impulses, participants are encouraged to question the dance, physical, and acting portrayal of characters in relation to gender/sexuality. At the same time, rehearsal structures should also be questioned in this regard. The aim is to draw attention to patriarchal patterns that are anchored in rehearsal processes and performance and, if necessary, to break them down.

Our workshops follow a solidarity-based pricing model with a sliding scale. Within this framework, you decide for yourselves how much you’d like to and are able to pay. Those who can afford to pay more help support other participants.

No one will be excluded from participating for financial reasons.

We want to make the workshop as accessible as possible so that everyone can participate. Please feel free to let us know in advance via email at organisation@ehrenfeldstudios.de about any specific access requirements you may have, for example by sending us an Access Rider. We will then do our best to accommodate your access requirements as much as possible and in communication with you.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Malin Assmus studied performing arts at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. After a permanent engagement at the Theater Heilbronn, Malin began working as a freelancer in Cologne in 2020. Her career has been shaped by her own work, film and theater productions, and her collaboration with dancer Lisa Hellmich. Her work focuses on intersectional queer-feminist and human rights issues. Malin is currently pursuing a master’s degree in gender and queer studies.
