In MIT UNS! ZWEI, the dancers David Winking and Karel Vanel explore partnership as a complex and dynamic relational structure that cannot be reduced to romantic constellations but instead encompasses diverse forms of togetherness. The bodies become carriers of relationship: they respond to one another, support each other, contradict one another, or enter into tension. Who is perceived as an equal partner? Which bodies are considered “able” or “deviant”? As different physical and biographical perspectives encounter one another, partnership emerges as a space in which social hierarchies are reproduced, but can also be unsettled and reconfigured.
MIT UNS! ZWEI positions itself as a contribution to increasing the visibility of people with Down syndrome within the performing arts. The production situates itself within the tensions of contemporary diversity discourses and articulates a commitment to an inclusive artistic practice that not only integrates different bodies, lived realities, and forms of expression, but recognizes them as equally valuable and aesthetically productive.
