in collaboration with Rebecca de Toro und Shauna Fischer
Veline are a showgirl duo created by the Italian television production company Mediaset, whose job is to perform the stacchetti: a 30-second dance break characterized by cheerful routines and ever-present smiles.
“VELINE repertoire” is a choreographic study of these Italian television showgirls, fantasizing about their relationship with lesbian romance. While the performers trace the Stacchetti repertoire from the 1990s to the present day through dance, the girls on stage gradually turn away from the camera. What begins in mimicry turns into seduction where frivolous gestures become erotic tension, smiles become enchantment, till the choreography binds them into a romance. “VELINE repertoire” deconstructs the glossy surface of berlusconian femininity and reveals the desire—and defiance—beneath.
In this new production, Gaia Pellegrini continues the gestures and aesthetics of her previous choreographic works “Million Dollar Smile” and “culo 2 aka le veline.”
VELINE repertoire is presented as part of the LOOK guest performance series for dance art and diversity.
